Technology | How to Make LED Display Screens More Energy-Efficient?
June 3, 2025
With the rapid development of society, all industries are advocating the production of green and environmentally friendly products, and the LED industry is no exception. LED display screens have been widely used on every street corner of cities, becoming a unique symbol to enhance urban images and beautify cityscapes. The LED industry should keep pace with the times, respond to national calls, and promote energy-saving and environmentally friendly products. As is well known, due to their high brightness, LED display screens may not achieve ideal energy-saving effects, but this does not mean they must be high-energy-consuming products. So, how can LED display screens become more energy-efficient?
01 Selection of Environmentally Friendly Materials
LED display screens made from environmentally friendly materials, through special processing techniques, can achieve water resistance, dust resistance, and UV resistance without glue filling. This consumes fewer materials than products manufactured by general processes and is more environmentally friendly.
02 Constant Current Noise Reduction Technology
The driving chips of LED display screens adopt internationally advanced dedicated chip systems for LED display screens, which lead the industry in the full-color LED display screen field. Combining the characteristics of these chips, constant current noise reduction technology has been developed to ensure that the impact of power supplies and other noise sources on LED electronic display screens is minimized. Some driving ICs can also reduce the original 5V voltage to 4.2V for energy-saving purposes.
03 Adoption of Automatic Brightness Adjustment Systems
Depending on day and night, different locations, environments, and time periods, slight changes in the brightness of display screens can produce significant effects. If the playback brightness of an LED display screen is more than 50% higher than the ambient brightness, it will cause obvious eye discomfort and lead to "light pollution."
04 Multi-Level Gray Scale Correction Technology
Ordinary LED display screen systems use an 18-bit color display hierarchy, which can make colors appear very harsh in low-gray-scale areas and color transitions, causing discomfort with colored light. The new LED large-screen control system adopts a 14-bit color display hierarchy, which greatly improves the smoothness of color transitions, making colors appear soft to viewers and avoiding visual discomfort.
05 Power Supply
The realization of energy-efficient LED display screens mainly starts with the power supply. Existing LED display screens directly use half-bridge or full-bridge high-efficiency switching power supplies, combined with synchronous rectification for significant energy-saving effects. Under the condition of constant current supply to the driving IC, the power supply voltage should be minimized, and separate power supply for red, green, and blue pixels can achieve better energy-saving results.
